Sounds Like Brisbane @ Brisbane CBD, 18.06.2010

A nice way to spend an evening in the city, although I’m not sure if there was any lasting benefit by getting more people in Brisbane interested in the bands in their city. Up until tonight I never realised there was that little laneway behind where Skinny’s used to be, down a little lane off Elizabeth Street. It was one of those rare moments when you find something unexpected and exciting in the city you live in that you never knew existed. It was only about a year after discovering it that the developers moved in to raise it to the ground and started to built yet another monstrous carbuncle to further blot Brisbane’s landscape. Looking at old photos of Brisbane, even only as far back as the 1960s, Brisbane’s city centre looked fantastic. Looking out of my 12th floor office window over the city and New Farm it’s a struggle to see any buildings older than me. Even in the 8 months I’ve been living in Salisbury it’s changed. Perfectly good houses knocked down to allow the land to be subdivided and a couple of soulless new builds put up in their place. Cultural vandalism at its worst.
