It’s always the way; you turn up to a gig expecting to maybe get 10 minutes of photographing before you’re escorted from the premises and without warning not only do they give you a ticket to stay for the whole show but they’ve also thrown in a very unexpected +1. And with 10 minutes to show time it just ends up going to waste.
Just because it’s Rollins doesn’t mean that there’s any less rules for photographing tonight; the first 3 minutes from way out to the side and peaking out from behind a curtain. It’s a shame as the seat I’ve been given is almost dead centre and Rollins from the front would have made a far better subject than he makes photographing from out in the wings (although it probably wouldn’t have gone down well with the audience).
It was the first time I’ve seen him do his stand-up (does he do any music these days or have any interest in it any more?) and I think it was also probably the first time I’ve seen someone in real life talk uninterrupted for almost 3 hours. And without even taking a sip of water. And I really enjoyed it, although it did put me off going to see Bad Brains if they ever reschedule their recently postponed tour.
